Singapore Airlines passenger traffic up 1.3% in May

Singapore Airlines' (SIA) passenger traffic, as measured in RPKs, increased by 1.3% year on year in May.

The carrier's passenger capacity, as measured in ASKs, rose by 3.1% and its passenger load factor fell by 1.2 percentage points to 74.6%.

The number of passengers carried by the airline grew by 1% to 1.47 million.

Passenger traffic at SIA's subsidiary, SilkAir, increased by 5.9% while its capacity grew by 17.2%. The number of passengers carried increased by 3% to 275,000. The carrier's passenger load factor dropped by 7 percentage points to 66.2%.

SIA Cargo's overall traffic, as measured in freight tonne kilometres, decreased by 5.1% year on year, while its capacity fell by 3.8%. The cargo load factor decreased by 0.8 percentage points to 62%.

The overall passenger and cargo load factor for the SIA Group remained flat at 66.9%.
