Singapore Airlines' (SIA) passenger traffic, as measured in RPKs, grew by 8.7% in August, compared with the same month in 2011.
The number of passengers carried by the airline increased by 6.5% to 1.48 million, the Star Alliance carrier said in statement.
The carrier's passenger capacity, as measured in ASKs, grew by 6.4%, while its passenger load factor rose by 1.7 percentage points to 78.3%.
SIA added that the passenger load factor for routes in the east Asia and southwest Pacific regions declined as growth in demand surpassed capacity increases.
Passenger traffic of SIA's subsidiary, SilkAir, increased by 27.5%, while capacity rose by 21.9% and passenger numbers grew by 17.1% to 274,000. The carrier's passenger load factor increased by 3.3 percentage points to 73.5%.
SIA Cargo's overall traffic, as measured in freight tonne kilometres, decreased by 4.3%, while capacity declined by 1.6%. Its cargo load factor fell by 1.7 percentage points to 60.6%.
The overall passenger and cargo load factor for the SIA group increased by 1.1 percentage points to 67.5%.
