Singapore Airlines passenger traffic up 9.1% in November

Singapore Airlines' passenger traffic as measured in RPKs grew by 9.1% in November, compared with the same month in 2011.

The number of passengers carried by the airline increased by 9.7% to 1.53 million, says the Star Alliance carrier.

The carrier's passenger capacity as measured in ASKs rose by 5.6% and its passenger load factor rose by 2.5 percentage points to 77.7%.

SIA adds that its passenger load factors for the month improved for all regions except in the southwest Pacific, where growth in demand lagged the increase in capacity.

Passenger traffic of SIA's subsidiary, SilkAir, increased by 12.2%, while its capacity rose by 19.1% and passenger numbers grew by 4.5% to 279,000. The carrier's passenger load factor fell by 4.6 percentage points to 74.4%.

SIA Cargo's overall traffic, as measured in freight tonne kilometres, decreased by 8.8%, and its capacity declined by 11.4%. Its cargo load factor grew by 1.9 percentage points to 66.1%.

The overall passenger and cargo load factor for the SIA Group increased by 3.1 percentage points to 70.3%.
