Russia's Irkut has narrowed the time frame for the first test flight of its MS-21 twinjet to end-2014, with Russian certification to follow in end-2016.

This will be followed by international certification in 2017, said Irkut's president, Alexey Federov, in an update on the programme at the Singapore air show.

The airframer expects to sign contracts with its suppliers in the near future and complete the final design phase later this year, he said.

Irkut has won more than 200 orders for the MS-21, including orders from state firm Rostekhnologii and lessor Ilyushin Finance (IFC).
