Air transport communications specialist SITA has turned in a 3.5% increase in consolidated revenues, to $1.47 billion, for 2008.

The company also posted a pre-tax margin of $53 million and secured new business amounting to nearly $1.2 billion.

SITA chief Francesco Violante says the company "performed well" and attributes the business increase to information technology - including electronic ticketing - being an "essential part" of daily air transport operations.

Seventy-five airlines' e-ticket services are supported by SITA's platform, and they issued over 82 million tickets last year against 10.6 million two years ago.
