SkyWest, Inc. is projecting about 3,100 flight cancellations due to Hurricane Sandy and the impending nor'easter storm expected to hit the East Coast of the USA this week, says SkyWest Inc. president Bradford Rich during an earnings call today.

About 3,000 of those flights are operated by Atlanta-based ExpressJet, says Rich, adding that the weather events will have "a significant impact" on SkyWest Inc.'s operations.

The company is bracing for an approximately $3 million pre-tax impact on its fourth quarter performance when looking at initial estimates, says Rich. More accurate numbers will be disclosed during the carrier's fourth quarter earnings call, he adds.
