Boeing 737 engine maintenance specialist Snecma Morocco Engine Services (SMES) has extended its market reach to Airbus A320 operators.

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have approved the Casablanca overhaul shop to support CFM International CFM56-5B engines, which power the A320-family.

The joint venture between Snecma (51%) and Royal Air Maroc (49%) has so-far concentrated on CFM56-3 engines for 737-300/400/500 aircraft and CFM56-7B engines for the current-generation 737-600/700/800/900.

SMES said that it recently overhauled a CFM56-5B powerplant for a major Indian airline.
