Star Alliance carrier South African Airways has confirmed a date next year to open services to the Argentine capital Buenos Aires.
It will begin operating the Johannesburg-Buenos Aires route from 8 April, initially twice per week. The carrier will introduce a third weekly rotation in July 2009.
Chief executive Khaya Ngqula says the city is an "excellent market" for the airline, which offers good connectivity throughout southern South America.
South African Airways will use Airbus A340-200s for the service which, it says, will complement its daily route to Sao Paulo in Brazil.
