Recruitment is under way for a South African start-up carrier which appears to be planning operations with Boeing 737 aircraft.

The airline, branded Velvet Sky, is intending to start operating early this year, subject to securing government approval.

It is advertising through a recruitment specialist for line pilots on 737s, cabin crew, operations staff and personnel for other general administrative and financial positions.

Most of the positions, it says, will be based in Durban. The company adds that it will be conducting cabin crew assessments this month.

Details of the ownership structure and route network of the new airline have yet to emerge.
