Southwest Airlines has appointed former Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) administrator Randolph "Randy" Babbitt as senior vice-president of labour relations.

Babbitt will oversee labour relations and negotiations between Southwest and eleven organisations. He will report to chief operating officer Mike Van de Ven in the new position.

Babbitt resigned from his post as FAA administrator following a drunk driving arrest on 3 December 2011. A Virginia judge later dropped the charges in May 2012. Babbitt took the administrator position in June 2009.
