Southwest Airlines Cargo has launched its cargo companion asset tracking service, which uses a US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-approved wireless device to track high-value shipments door to door.

The cornerstone of the service is the Sentry 400 FlightSafe wireless device manufactured by OnAsset, which transmits information about a package's location and statistics on the environment the package endures throughout the shipping process.

The wireless device transmits e-mails updates couriers and freight forwarders about the status of the shipment as well as data such as the temperature, pressure, light exposure, vibration and humidity surrounding the cargo.
