Southwest Airlines recorded a 7% rise year-over-year in passenger unit revenues for the month of January.

The results were consistent with the 7-8% increase Southwest reported for December, but below the 10% recorded by US Airways and 14.5% increase posted by Delta.

Southwest's January traffic results showed a 2.7% rise in traffic on capacity growth of 0.7%, with load factors growing 1.5 percentage points to 74.3%.

Southwest is in the process of merging with AirTran Airways after acquiring AirTran in May of last year.
