Southwest Airlines will open a pilot base in Atlanta this August.
The Dallas-based low-cost carrier will employ at least 200 cockpit crew members at the base and grow it as needed, it says.
"We are very pleased to invest in a facility here in Atlanta dedicated to helping our employees be the best in the industry," says Jeff Lamb, executive vice-president and chief people and administration officer of Southwest, in a statement.
Southwest is in the process of integrating AirTran, which has a hub in Atlanta, into the airline. It anticipates this to be complete in 2014.
Atlanta will join Southwest's pilot bases at Baltimore-Washington, Chicago Midway, Dallas Love Field, Denver, Houston Hobby, Las Vegas, Oakland, Orlando and Phoenix.
