Southwest unit revenues up 5% in March

Southwest Airlines and its subsidiary AirTran Airways have reported a 5% growth in passenger unit revenues in March with a slight decrease in traffic.

Revenue passenger miles were down 0.9% year-on-year, says Southwest.

Capacity also decreased by 0.9%, resulting in a 0.1 percentage point fall in passenger load factor to 81.8%. Passenger numbers fell 1.3% to 9.59 million.

On a year-to-date basis, passenger traffic fell 0.1% and capacity rose 1.2%. The passenger load factor was down 1.1 percentage points to 77.3%.
