Southwest unit revenues up 5% in October

Southwest Airlines and its subsidiary AirTran Airways have reported an about 5% increase in passenger revenue per available seat mile (PRASM) in October compared to a year earlier.

Traffic decreased by 2.4% on a 1.6% decline in capacity during the period. This resulted in a 0.7 percentage point decrease in load factor to 80.7%.

Southwest carrier 3.1% fewer revenue passengers, or 9.15 million passengers, in October 2012 than in 2011.
