Spanish start-up Plus Ultra Lineas Aereas plans to launch services with an Airbus A340 fleet previously operated by Iberia.

Little is known about the capitalisation of the airline and its business plan, but Plus Ultra could start services between Madrid and Latin America later this year. It has just secured two A340-300s and could add a third aircraft before launching operations.

The new long-haul carrier is headed by former Air Madrid director Julio Martinez. Air Madrid operated long-haul flights to Latin America from the Spanish capital using A330/A340s prior to suspending flights in late 2006.

Plus Ultra could not be reached for comment.
