Ultra low cost carrier Spirit Airlines is indicating it could use a batch of 75 Airbus narrowbodies scheduled for delivery from 2016 to 2021 to replace aircraft with lease expirations occurring during that time.

The airline recently firmed an order announced in November of 2011 consisting of 30 current model A320s and 45 of the re-engined A320neo. Those orders are in addition to 31 A320s scheduled for delivery through 2015.

Spirit in a regulatory filing issued on 17 January stated the 75 deliveries starting in 2016 "provide for growth capacity and give us flexibility in our fleet plan to replace all or some of the 28 aircraft in our present fleet with lease expirations between 2017 and 2020".
