Dispatchers at Spirit Airlines voted on 15 August to ratify a new five-year contract with the Miramar, Florida-based carrier.

The agreement, which is effective today, provides better pay for Spirit's dispatchers while maintaining efficiency and supporting the company's growth, says Spirit in a statement announcing the news.

Spirit's dispatchers are represented by the Transport Workers Unions.

"We are pleased to have reached a mutually-beneficial and competitive agreement that recognises our high-quality team of dispatchers for the great job they do every day for the company and our customers," Spirit president and chief executive Ben Baldanza says.

Spirit had 24 dispatchers at the end of 2012, according to the company's 2012 securities filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
