US lessor and investor company Strategic Air Finance has provided financing on a Boeing 737-400SF converted by Aeronautical Engineers (AEI).

The 1999-vintage (MSN 29487) aircraft was delivered to Southern Air, which will operate it for DHL Express in the Americas.

The 737-400SF is the first of five Boeing aircraft to be converted under a deal with AEI. The 737-400SF fleet will operate from DHL Express's Cincinnati hub to several cities across the northeast and Midwest, including Philadelphia, Hartford and St Louis.

International planned routes include flights from Caracas to Barbados and to Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean, as well as from the Venezuelan capital to Colombian capital Bogota and Panama.

AEI expects more than 30 freighter conversions to be delivered in 2014.
