Sukhoi's civil aircraft division is interested in co-operating on Superjet manufacture although the extent of any partnership has yet to be determined.

United Aircraft president Mikhail Pogosyan, speaking during a briefing in Moscow, said there was potential value from the involvement of Indonesian Aerospace in the programme.

"I've inspected their plant," he says, adding that it supplies other airframers. "[It] has mastered the quality standards of prominent Western manufacturers. Sukhoi is interested in co-operation with it."

Pogosyan says discussions have been held on manufacture of Superjet airframe parts and sub-assemblies.

But he says any industrial co-operation would not be intended as a political tool to obtain additional sales to Indonesian customers.

Pogosyan estimates the Indonesian market could support 50 Superjets.
