Swissport intends to establish a ground handling joint venture with Bulgaria Air at Sofia airport.
The potential competitive impact of the proposed partnership is currently being assessed by the European Commission.
Since 2007, the Zurich-based ground handling group has had a station named Swissport Bulgaria at Letishte Sofia-Vrazhdebna airport.
In future, that facility is to be jointly controlled by Swissport and the airline’s parent, Bulgarian Airways Group, says the Commission.
Some 210 staff members are employed at the station, which serves a number of customers – such as Air Malta, Flydubai, Lufthansa, Thomas Cook and TUI – but not Bulgarian Air, Swissport’s website indicates.
