Tajikistan's flag carrier Tajik Air has acquired a BAE Systems Avro RJ100 to beef up frequencies to nearby capitals.
The jet is being leased from Asian Express Airlines, says the carrier. It will be used for regular seasonal flights from Dushanbe to Almaty, Bishkek and Baku, complementing three Boeing 737-300/500s on these routes.
Tajik Air recently cancelled services to New Delhi and Islamabad, but it is considering launching a new route to Doha.
The flag carrier transported 422.000 passengers last year, down 10% on the previous year, with the decline being attributed to strengthened competition from privately-owned Somon Air.
