Ecuador’s TAME has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to launch non-stop service between Quito and Fort Lauderdale.
The airline will operate Airbus A320 family aircraft on the route, it says in a filing with the DOT.
TAME says it might utilise Airbus A330s on the route “in certain situations”.
The airline plans to initially operate daily on the route from late May, but could add more flights depending on market demand.
TAME will be the only carrier operating non-stop on the route, schedules in Innovata show.
Fort Lauderdale-based Spirit Airlines won approvals in 2011 to operate one-stop service from Fort Lauderdale to Quito and Guayaquil through Bogota.
But it has yet to begin those flights due to the availability of ideally timed slots at Bogota, Spirit said earlier this year.
