Ecuador's state-owned airline TAME has launched flights from Quito to Sao Paulo.

The thrice weekly Airbus A319 operated flight between Quito and Sao Paulo Guarulhos International airport will make an intermediate stop in Guayaquil.

The flight is the first non-stop connection ever between Sao Paulo and Ecuador as flights had previously made a stop in Manaus in the Amazonas region.

The carrier had earlier indicated that it would begin the flights in the spring of 2013, but growing numbers of Brazilian tourists to Ecuador have pushed this forward to January 2012, Ecuador's vice minister for tourism Luis Falconi has said.

TAME also plans to launch routes to Buenos Aires, New York and other destinations in North and Latin America later this year.
