Tanzanian carrier Precision Air Services has received the first ATR 42-600 to be delivered for scheduled commercial airline service.
The aircraft, the smaller member of the new -600 series family, is the first of five -600s ordered by the carrier in late 2011.
Precision's ATR fleet will increase to 14 once the deliveries are complete. The carrier will take four 42-600s over the course of 2012-13 and a single 72-600 in 2014.
ATR says the carrier will put the first turboprop into service on the Kilimanjaro route.
"By expanding our fleet our customers will enjoy more efficiency and better travel experience from us. We are now giving our customers a greater choice and better service," says Precision Air group chief Alfonse Kioko.
He says the twin-engined type is "suited to our growth ambitions on the African continent".
