TAP Portugal is closing in on a codeshare agreement with Brazilian low-cost airline Gol.
“We are negotiating that,” confirms the Portuguese flag carrier’s chief executive Fernando Pinto.
He adds that TAP’s relationship with Gol “has always been good”, with “a lot of passenger transfer”, even when the Portuguese carrier was co-operating with Gol’s rival TAM within the Star Alliance. TAP remains a member of that grouping, but TAM has switched allegiances to Oneworld. Gol, while sitting outside of an alliance, has close a co-operation and investment partnership with SkyTeam partners Air France and Delta Air Lines.
While TAP itself serves a dozen Brazilian destinations, Gol offers “good connections” as it “really serves all around Brazil”, says Pinto.
TAP last year sealed an interline agreement with another Brazilian low-cost, Azul.
