TAP Portugal is in talks with leasing entities to acquire two ATR 42-600s for its regional subsidiary Portugalia (PGA), says a source.
The Portuguese flag carrier announced the launch a new route between the capital Lisbon and Oviedo in Spain on 1 July as it continues to strengthen in the Iberian peninsula.
“The launch of the Oviedo service has been made possible because of an important change to the fleet operated by PGA, with the replacement of two 19-seater Beechcraft 1900D aircraft with two modern 46-seater ATR 42-600s, which also have a longer range,” says TAP.
The ATR 42 transaction has yet to be finalised, says the source.
Oviedo will become the eighth Spanish city with direct TAP flights, joining Madrid and Barcelona (which have direct flights from Lisbon, Porto and Funchal), Seville, La Coruna, Bilbao, Malaga and Valencia.
