Romanian flag-carrier Tarom has formally joined the SkyTeam alliance, bringing 11 new destinations to the airline group's network.
Tarom, whose accession was marked at an event in Bucharest today, takes the SkyTeam membership to 13 carriers.
"Implementing the joining process was quite challenging, because we had to concentrate...on regaining our market share and obtaining an increase in passenger numbers of up to 20%," says Tarom chief Ruxandra Brutaru, emphasising the economic difficulties experienced last year.
The Romanian airline is expecting to transport 2 million passengers this year, with a load factor of 60%.
Tarom is operating to 45 destinations this summer. SkyTeam's overall network covers 898 destinations.
