Thailand's finance ministry has indicated it will invest 7.5 billion baht ($233.2 million) in Thai Airways International, as the airline prepares for a shares issue to raise capital.

While the government has not made a formal announcement, it plans to maintain its 51% stake in the carrier and has committed to buying half of the new shares issued by Thai, says a senior source in the Star Alliance airline.

In March, Thai's board approved a proposal to issue up to one billion new ordinary shares.

The airline plans to launch a roadshow in early September for the shares issue, says the source.
