Thomas Cook Airlines is to lease six Airbus A321s from Air Lease Corporation, the vehicle established by former International Lease Finance chief Steve Udvar-Hazy.

The aircraft will come from the order backlog of Air Lease and will be powered by CFM International CFM56 engines.

Air Lease is to supply two A321s in 2013 and the other four in spring 2014, said the Los Angeles-based lessor.

Thomas Cook is renewing its fleet with a strategy centred on Airbus jets, and firmed an order for 12 A321s - fitted with 'sharklet' wing-tip modifications - at the beginning of this year.
