Thomson Airways has selected Cheshire-based IFE Services to design the interface for the Panasonic eX2 inflight entertainment system installed on eight of the carrier's Boeing 787-8 aircraft.

The airline's first 787s will start flying long-haul routes on 1 May 2013, says Thomson. According to Flightglobal's Ascend fleet data, Thomson is set to receive four 787-8s by May 2013 out of a total backlog of 13, with the first delivery set for 15 January 2013. The total fleet is expected to arrive through 2016.

Thomson's parent company TUI Travel Group announced in September 2011 that it would install Panasonic's eX2 inflight entertainment and connectivity system on the airline. It also chose Panasonic for MRO services on those systems.
