Tiger Airways is still committed to its Thai Tiger joint venture with Thai Airways International despite news reports that it has not been approved by the Thai government.
"It was reported in the media that Thailand's transport ministry did not approve the joint venture," Tiger Airways said in a statement.
"The company wishes to clarify that it has been informed by Thai Airways that the necessary investment approvals by the Thai authorities, [which are] required in order to proceed with the incorporation of Thai Tiger, are still pending," the statement said.
According to Raj Tanta-nanta, vice president for investor relations for Thai Airways, the flag carrier has submitted the relevant documents that are required by Thailand's transport ministry and has received no notification from the government that the application has been rejected.
"Thai remains fully committed and supportive on this project to this moment," Raj Tanta-nanta said.
