Tokyo Narita airport passenger numbers up 11% in December

Japan's Tokyo Narita International Airport's passenger numbers for December 2012 increased by 11% year on year to 2.76 million.

The airport's domestic passenger numbers almost doubled to 328,000, while its international passenger numbers grew by 5% to 2.43 million.

Total aircraft movements at the airport increased by 12% to 18,200, while domestic flight movements rose by 63% to 3,590 and international aircraft movements grew by 4% to 14,600.

Total cargo handled at the airport during the month declined by 2% to 164,000t, as loaded cargo volumes decreased by 5% to 70,600t and unloaded cargo volumes increased by 1% to 93,400t.

For the full year, passenger numbers grew by 17% to 32.8 million as domestic passenger numbers almost doubled to 3.24 million and international passenger numbers rose by 12% to 29.6 million.

Total aircraft movements for the year ended 31 December increased by 14% to 209,000 as domestic flight movements rose by 69% to 35,400 and international flight movements grew by 7% to 173,000.

For the year, total cargo handled at the airport rose by 3% to 1.95 million tonnes, as loaded cargo volumes grew by 1% to 869,000t and unloaded cargo volumes increased by 4% to 1.08 million tonnes.
