British Airways says it is too early to estimate the impact of new UK airport security measures on forward bookings, as it discloses a slight decline in traffic for June.

Security in the UK has been tightened following the vehicle attack on Glasgow Airport on 30 June.

While BA says that market conditions are “broadly unchanged” it has yet to assess the potential knock-on effect of additional precautions. The airline has already experienced related problems having been forced to cancel dozens of flights from London Heathrow yesterday after a security alert.

The flag-carrier was badly affected by heightened security measures imposed in August last year.

For June the airline’s traffic was down by 1.4%, which led to a slight dip in load factor to 80.5%, although BA points out that premium traffic rose during the month, and the overall decline was due to a fall in non-premium traffic.
