Transaero is eyeing the Lumexis fiber optics-based in-flight entertainment system for installation on its newly ordered Airbus A380s and Boeing 747-800s, FlightglobalPro has learned.
Late last week, the carrier took delivery of the first of four 373-seat Boeing 777-300s fitted with the Lumexis system. The four-cabin 777s will be followed by four 522-seat Boeing 747-400s, which will also be fitted with the Lumexis 'fiber-to-the-screen' IFE system.
This week Transaero tentatively signed for four Airbus A380s and four 747-8 passenger aircraft, as it prepares for Russia's hosting of some major international events including Formula One Grand Prix race and the Winter Olympics.
While Transaero has not announced which IFE system it will install on the airliners, it is understood the carrier is leaning heavily towards offering the Lumexis system.
Lumexis declined to comment.
