Transaero Airlines has secured the right to operate from Moscow and St Petersburg to Havana.
Russian aviation agency Rosaviatsia has allowed the carrier to provide seven weekly services to the Cuban capital from Moscow and five from St Petersburg.
To date, Transaero has only served Varadero in Cuba. It will compete with Aeroflot and affiliate Rossiya Airlines on routes to Havana. The carrier plans to launch flights to the city in the winter season.
Around 90,000 Russian tourists visited Cuba last year.
