Air France’s new French leisure carrier Transavia has began operations on its twice-daily launch route between Paris Orly and Porto in Portugal.

The new carrier, which is based on KLM leisure carrier Transavia in the Netherlands, began operations on 12 May.

A Transavia spokeswoman says the start-up carried 150 passengers on its first flight, which was operated on a Boeing 737-800.

From June a further eight Mediterranean destinations will join the French Transavia’s network. These comprise the Spanish city of Girona, Palermo and Catania in Sicily, Heraklion in Crete, the Tunisian cities of Monastir and Djerba, and Agadir and Oujda in Morocco.
