Transavia, the low-cost Dutch arm of mainline carrier KLM, will make Eindhoven its third base - after Schipol and Rotterdam - from spring 2013.

It will initially station three Boeing 737s at the airport, and could later add two further aircraft at the site, according to the airline's chief executive Bram Gräber.

The move will see Transavia increase its number of flights from Eindhoven by 30%. From February 2013 it will add new services to Bologna, Naples, Madrid and Copenhagen, increasing the total number of routes flown by Transavia from the airport to 23.
