Russian investigators are to arrange a full-scale simulation of the thrust-reverser control system on the Tupolev Tu-204, to help determine the cause of the fatal Red Wings overrun accident in Moscow.

The Interstate Aviation Committee says the ground-based simulation of the reverser locking system which features on the Aviadvigatel PS-90A engines on the twinjet type.

Simulations will begin on 11 February, it adds.

Attempts to engage reverse thrust failed as the Red Wings aircraft landed at Moscow Vnukovo on 29 December 2012. Non-deployment of the reverser mechanism meant that, when the crew selected maximum reverse thrust, the power instead accelerated the aircraft forward.
