Russia's Tupolev has completed high-intensity electromagnetic field testing on the Tu-204SM as part of the type's certification regime.
The twinjet is a modernised successor to the Tu-204, designed to transport up to 215 passengers.
Tupolev says the tests, performed on airframe number 64150, are designed to ensure that its on-board systems are protected from electromagnetic radiation.
The design bureau carried out the tests at Taganrog in co-operation with aerospace firm Beriev.
Preliminary results, says Tupolev, indicate the aircraft "meets the requirements" of the certification criteria.
Tupolev says the twinjet is in the "final stages" of certification testing and that mass production is scheduled for 2013, although the Tu-204SM has struggled to attract customers.
At the beginning of this year Tupolev was expecting serial production of the type to start in 2012.
