Turkish Airlines has indicated an interest in acquiring up to a dozen turboprops if its wet-lease of ATRs for its Anadolu Jet operation proves successful.

It is leasing two ATR 72s from Borajet. Turkish Airlines general manager Temel Kotil says: "We have launched a different product with turboprop aircraft serving our brand Anadolu Jet.

"If we succeed, Turish Airlines would be interested in 10-12 turboprop aircraft."

Anadolu Jet started operating from Ankara Esenboga and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen to Siirt, Adiyaman and Canakkale with Borajet's aircraft.

"In Turkey and the surrounding region there are some airports whichs have short runways which are not suitable for our jet aircraft," says Kotil. "Turboprops give low cost with high performance."
