United Arab Emirates-based start-up cargo carrier Midex Airlines is aiming to begin flights shortly after signing an agreement with Abu Dhabi Airports Company to established its main base at Al Ain International Airport.

Midex Airlines, which is part of Lebanon-headquartered logistics group Midex International, plans to operate cargo links to Beirut, Istanbul, Paris Orly, Dhaka in Bangladesh, and Mumbai and Kochin in India. The carrier says it secured its licences to operate passenger and cargo flights last year.

ADAC chairman and managing director Khalifa Al Mazrouei says: “We are delighted that Midex has chosen Al Ain International Airport as its home base and main hub for their international cargo business.

“This operation will take advantage of Al Ain Airport’s strategic location with easy road access to the entire UAE, international air and sea connections and our Gulf Co-operation Council neighbours.”

Nobody could immediately be reached for comment at Midex Airlines, but local reports indicate the carrier hopes to start flights next month and will operate a fleet of six Airbus A300 freighters and a single Boeing 747-200 freighter.
