Ukraine International Airlines has opened a route between Kiev and Tashkent.

The flights to Uzbekistan’s capital started on 14 August and are being operated twice-weekly with Boeing 737s, the carrier says.

Online ADS-B data indicates that the airline is routing the flights over the Black Sea to avoid both Russian and Crimean airspace.

Direct flights would be routed across eastern Ukraine via Russian airspace, the northern part of the Caspian Sea and Kazakhstan.

Russia’s air navigation service provider Rosaeronavigatsia has prohibited UIA from overflying the country on routes to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kazakhstan.
