UK ad hoc carrier Atlantic Airlines is planning to wet-lease an Antonov An-72 for a year-long assessment period on behalf of freight company TNT Worldwide Express.

Atlantic Airlines is intending to source the short take-off/landing (STOL) aircraft from Estonian carrier Enimex from 23 February.

“The reason for the application is to provide TNT with the opportunity to evaluate the aircraft as part of its future fleet strategy and to offer the bloodstock industry additional capacity,” says Atlantic Airlines.

Atlantic Airlines, based in Coventry, is already operating two Tupolev Tu-204-120C freighters as part of a similar evaluation and has previously sought to wet-lease a Ukrainian Antonov An-74 to examine its potential for specialised operations.

The carrier also has two Latvian Antonov An-26 turboprops in its fleet which also includes Lockheed L-188 Electra aircraft.
