Russia’s United Aircraft has named Nikolai Savickich as the head of design bureau Tupolev and its associated Kazan-based airframer KAPO.
Savickich takes over from Alexander Bobryshev, after the UAC board agreed to end his contract early.
UAC plans to increase its supply of civil aircraft by 30% over 2014 compared with this year. It intends to raise the rate of Sukhoi Superjet output and focus on development of the Irkut MC-21.
“To ensure continued growth we need UAC not only to increase production and performance of its member companies but also to work on new projects,” says its president, Mikhail Pogosyan.
KAPO’s aircraft line includes the Tupolev Tu-214 and this month it handed over a specially-developed version, the Tu-214VPU, to the Russian government.
