United Continental Holdings has reached a tentative agreement with a machinists union that represents more than 28,000 workers.

The agreements with the International Associations of Machinists must still be ratified by employees in the fleet service, passenger service and storekeeper workgroups.

If ratified, the collective bargaining agreements would be the first enacted since the merger of United and Continental airlines, and the combination of the workgroups under IAM representation.

The negotiations required intervention by the National Mediation Board to bring the management and labour negotiating committees to an agreement.
