Economy plus seats on United Airlines are now available for sale on the Travelport global distribution system (GDS) in the USA.
The GDS is the first to offer the seats, which offer up to 12.7cm (5in) of additional legroom to passengers in economy, to travel agents.
Agents can also offer qualified customers complimentary economy plus seats, according to Chicago-based United.
“This next-generation travel technology enables our travel management company partners to utilise the same dynamic pricing and to provide the same economy plus shopping experience as we do on united.com,” says John Slater, vice-president of sales for the Americas at the carrier.
Chris Engle, vice-president of air services at Travelport, says: “This is a prime example of Travelport executing one piece of its merchandising strategy: to partner with airlines to enable them to distribute their fares and ancillary content exactly how they choose to [and] to do so through the travel agency channel.”
The GDS has sold main cabin extra seats on American Airlines since 2013 and economy comfort seats on Delta Air Lines since 2012.
