United Continental Holdings estimates that its consolidated passenger revenue per available seat mile (PRASM) fell by 0.5% to 1.5% in August compared with the same month in 2011.
During the month, traffic grew 0.4% as capacity declined 0.6% resulting in a 0.9 percentage points increase in load factor to 86.6%. Passenger numbers rose 0.7% to 13.2 million.
On the domestic front, traffic fell 1.2% as capacity decreased 1.3%, resulting in a 0.1 percentage point improvement in load factor to 88.5%.
On its international routes, traffic rose 1.2% while capacity fell 0.3% resulting in a 1.2 percentage points increase in load factor to 85.8%.
Cargo traffic for August fell 2.6%.
