Maintenance instructors at United Airlines have elected the International Association of Machinists (IAM) to represent them, in a vote conducted by the US National Mediation Board.
The 40 employees that voted elected the union by a 95% margin in May, according to a union statement. The group includes 45 maintenance instructors from United as well as former Continental Airlines and Continental Micronesia.
IAM says it will now begin negotiations with the airline for a joint collective bargaining agreement for the employees.
United did not comment.
