Five to 10 airlines around the world will launch regular or one-off biofuel services over the next couple of months, according to Dirk Kronemeijer, managing director of Netherlands-based biofuel supplier SkyNRG.

Speaking to Flightglobal at the Airline Business World Air Forum in Amsterdam, Kronemeijer said that in a few months the company would have "a customer in each continent".

He said that test flights of biofuels derived from algae and halophytes would likely take place in 2012, but added that both technologies are around five years away from being produced on a commercial scale.
